Greenwich Park for toddlers and their parents

Greenwich Park

Greenwich Park is the oldest Royal Park and is on the top of the hill with views over the River Thames, including sights such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Canary Wharf.

What is there for toddlers?

I take my toddler there quite a lot. Having just returned from a visit in mid-February I decided to blog about it as we had a lovely time. There is so much space, I just let my 23 month old out of the pushchair, let him run around where he wanted and tire himself out! Admittedly in the Summer it can quite get busy but the park is so big there’s always space to run around. There’s lots to occupy small children. Check out the things to do below:

Playground

The playground has a large sandpit, swings and several play structures with slides, tunnels to crawl though and steps to climb. These range from tiny structures that children between ages one and two can explore through to bigger ones suitable for older children. There are picnic tables and a refreshment kiosk which is open in the Summer and toilets. There is boating lake for children right nextdoor to the park which is also only open in the Summer so you can take the children on a boat for a small charge.

The view and the Observatory

It is a bit of a hard walk up a steep hill (especially with a pushchair) but its worth going to the top of Greenwich Hill to see the views of the Thames and Canary Wharf.

Flower Garden,  ducks and deer

There is a lovely flower garden at the top of the hill which is perfect to let your little one wander around. Dogs are not allowed in this area and the gardeners work hard all year round so the flower beds always look beautiful! From here, go to the far end of the park and feed the ducks. Not far from here is a viewing point which will allow you and the children to spot the wild deer.

There is lots more to do in Greenwich for toddlers including visting the National Maritime Museum.
