What is there for toddlers?
There is a lot for the under 3 age group. What small child is not fascinated by animals, gorrillas, monkeys, giraffes and tigers. There are many walk through exhibits which your child can experience including a butterfly tunnel, an aviary with tropical birds and a meet the monkeys walkthrough where you get to see squirrel monkeys. There are also penguins and an aquarium! A brand new children’s zoo is planned to be opened at Easter 2009.

In addition to the animals there is a playground for under 5s opposite the Oasis cafe.

It is a good zoo with lots to see and do and anything animal themed is particularly good for toddlers. However, when I went I felt some of the cages for the bigger animals were quite small and I felt a bit sorry for the animals so I probably wouldn’t go again for this reason. It is also expensive so if you are on a budget and your little ones love animals consider going to a free city farm instead. Read my review of Mudchute Farm.

Tag your tot
London Zoo has a good facility where you can tag your tot with a wristband which is worth doing in case they get a lost in the crowds.

Pushchair access
The zoo has good access for buggies although there are some areas that don’t accomodate a pushchair particularly well. For example, there are steps going up to the aquarium. However, most of the zoo is pushchair friendly.

Food and drink
The Oasis cafe has highchairs and a children’s lunchbox available to buy which is very popular. There is also a microwave to heat baby milk. It can get quite busy and be quite expensive so it may be worth bringing your own picnic. There is also a picnic shop where you can buy sandwiches and drinks which is cheaper and less busy.

Toilets and baby changing.
There are baby changing facilities at many of the toilets throughout the zoo including some of the men’s toilets.
