Mudchute Farm London

Mudchute Farm is in South East London right next to Mudchute DLR station. It is the largest urban farm in London and is a great place for toddlers. When you arrive at Mudchute park at times its hard to believe you aren’t in the country (until you look up and see the towers at Canary Wharf in the distance).

What is there for toddlers?

The first time I took my son he was 14 months old and loved the small animal area where there  are rabbits, ducks, chickens and other birds. There are sinks based in this area so if your child touches any animals there are good facilities to wash their hands. Next to the small animal area are the horses which your toddler can have a look at. There is a riding school at the farm.

The larger farm area has sheep, pigs, goats, llama and cows and your toddler can get very close up to the animals.

Once you’ve visited the animals there is a 34 acres of parkland that you can explore. When you forget you’re in the city, just look up to see the towers of Canary Wharf and you’ll remember exactly where you are.

Food and drink
There is a small cafe which serves lots of delicious homemade food. Inside the cafe there is a small play area with toys and books which is aimed at babies and children under five. Admittedly the play area was a bit grubby but it is still great that the children can play while you have a cup of tea. There are also tables outside the cafe and if you don’t want to splash out on food you can also take your picnic and eat it at the tables. The cafe is closed on a Monday so bear this in mind if you visit then.

Pushchair access
The farm has very good pushchair access, with lots of space to move around although the path leading up to the farm can be a little bumpy.

Baby changing and toilets
There are baby changing facilites in the ladies toilets.

This lovely small farm is free and is well worth a visit when you have small children.
