National Maritime Museum for Toddlers
What’s at the museum for toddlers?
The National Maritime Museum is a fun, family museum with lots of interactive exhibits for older children but there are quite a lot events for under 5s as well. It is definitely worth checking the website before you go to see whats on as some days there is little for under 5s but on other days there is a lot to do. They tend to have arts and crafts activities for tiddlers (under 3s) and nippers (ages 3 to 5) most Tuesdays (out of school holidays). Be warned the kids may get quite messy so bring a change of clothes. They often have “Sail away Jo” which is storytellling and singing for 2 years plus. They also have events on a Sundays and throughout the school holidays for all ages.
Out of the back of the museum there is a play area which is basically a climbing frame and slide in the shape of ship which my 23 month old enjoyed. But if your little one wants to enjoy the playground, head for Greenwich park playground which is less than 5 minutes walk away.
There are lots of interactive exhibits for all ages throughout the museum. They are aimed at older children but my 23 month old did enjoy the “all hands on deck” gallery on the 3rd floor. He tried pulling on levers and turning a ship steering wheel. Don’t go just for this though as it will take about 15 minutes before your toddler gets bored.
Pushchair/Stroller Access
The museum is particularly accessible for puschairs with buggy parks on each floor, lifts and lots of space to manoevre.
Toilets /Baby changing facilities
There are toilets and baby changing facilities
Food and drink
The Regatta Restaurant and Paul Cafe both have highchairs, childrens meals and snacks. Packed lunches can also be eaten in the Museum: Mess Deck at weekends. The museum is just next Greenwich park so if it’s a nice day there is lots of space for a picnic.
